HARTWELL, Georgia, May 27, 2015---Ten Commandments Georgia (TC-Ga) has elected Dr. Tom Rush as President of the Board of Trustees.
TC-Ga’s board met this week to elect a new board chairman to replace Dr. Jody Hice who has, since the first of the year, become a US Congressman, representing Georgia’s 10th District. Dr. Hice was the founder of TC-Ga in 2003 when the ACLU sued the Barrow County Board of Commissioners to force removal of a Ten Commandments display from the Courthouse. Dr. Hice founded Ten Commandments – Georgia, Inc. to assist in supporting the county’s legal defense.
Dr. Rush, who has been a member of the board for a number of years, will continue to be dedicated to the tasks of educating Georgians about the Ten Commandments, encouraging the public display of historical documents and communicating the importance of our First Amendment rights.
“Dr. Rush has a passion for the cause of righteousness and his relentless faithfulness to 'stand in the gap' is undeniable,” said Congressman Hice. “I believe he will make an outstanding President at this time.”
Rush presently serves as the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Social Circle, Ga. In addition to his church and denominational service, Rush has also had a distinguished career as a Military Chaplain in both the Navy and the Air Force. In 2005 he retired from the Air Force after 28 years of service to his country.
“As the new president, Dr. Rush will be challenging citizens to acknowledge God through knowing, obeying, and displaying the Ten Commandments, thereby restoring a common moral code based upon God's laws and the founding philosophy of our country,” Congressman Hice added.
TC-Ga has given leadership in the state by promoting a bill signed into law (May 7, 2012) by Governor Nathan Deal that amended a 2006 law that allowed the posting of 9 historical documents, including a copy of the Ten Commandments, in Courthouses. The new law allows “The Foundations of American Law & Government Display” to be posted in ‘all’ public buildings! http://www1.legis.ga.gov/legis/2011_12/sum/hb766.htm
President Rush is available to make presentations to churches, schools, and community organizations about the importance of the Ten Commandments and the history of our country’s Judeo-Christian heritage.
