Historical Documents Posted in Jeff Davis County

Press Release Date

We are excited to announce that another set of the "Foundations of American Law & Government Display" has been placed in a government building. The documents have now gone up in the Jeff Davis County Courthouse in Hazlehurst, Ga. This makes 22 Georgia Counties that have taken advantage of the new law that passed in 2006.

On May 9th the Jeff Davis County Commissioners voted unanimously to accept a set of the historical documents that were given by the members of Oakland Baptist Church, Hazlehurst. The process of displaying the documents was lead by the pastor of Oakland, Rev. Royce Hulett. He, along with members of the church and county employees, participated in a dedication service of the documents on June 20th at the County Courthouse.

Mike Griffin (Executive Director of TC-Ga) said, “This just goes to show you what can happen when a pastor and/or a group of citizens make up their mind that they can make a difference in pointing our country back to our true historical foundations. Ten Commandments Georgia commends the citizens of Jeff Davis County for taking advantage of the state law that allows for such displays! This should be done at least 159 times in our state.”

Twenty-two counties in Georgia are now showcasing the documents that Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law on July 1, 2006. House Bill 941 http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/hb941.htm authorized local governments to erect historical displays that include a copy of the Ten Commandments in public buildings. These displays are paving the way for communities to further educate their citizens regarding historical facts about our country's founding.

These historical documents are being made available through the ministry of Ten Commandments-GA, Inc. We serve as a resource for private citizens, churches, civic clubs, and organizations to purchase these documents and to present them for approval to their local governing boards, commissions, and councils. TC-GA has beautifully designed to legal specifications the nine-piece historical display. You may view these unique designs by logging on to www.TenCommandmentsGa.org.
